Happy December!

I knew I should have trusted my instincts and said no but curiosity got the better of me and I watched this anyway. I think I might have nightmares tonight!
Happy December 1st peeps!
I was just getting used to it being 2011 and now it's almost over!

Thankful for Day 24

Today I am thankful for THANKSGIVING!
I am thankful for the time I took this month to live in thanksgiving and how it has enriched my life.

11.23.2011

Thankful for Day 23

Today I am thankful for hard days. They make you appreciate all the good things in your life and help you grow as an individual. Today was a hard day but I am thankful for it.

11.22.2011

Thankful for Days 21 & 22

So I have to say yesterday I was thankful for the fact that I get to spend five out of seven days in the week at home with my little one. We have all day to snuggle, count, read, do chores, make good meals, take naps, plan the budget, and just to learn and grown from each other in general. It is so great.

And today I am thankful for unkind people who are rude to me on the phone (bad day at work) because it just further reminds me how NOT to act and when to admit my mistakes!

11.20.2011

Thankful for Day 20

So going along with yesterday's post, today I would like to say I am thankful for technology, especially the internet.  I love how easy it is to stay connected with friends and family on such an intimate level through blogging and Facebook. The world is such a big place and I love that we have it all at our fingertips.
Although some people like to see the world through one of these...
(Awesome car we saw at Hastings...had to post a picture. It's a Twinkie!)

11.19.2011

Thankful for Day 19

Today I am thankful for...
A friend sent me an invite at the beginning of the summer and then Jared's sister sent me one a few weeks ago so I finally caved and joined and I am so so glad I did.
I just love having a place to store and organize the ideas I come across online. I always used to see great ideas and would forget where the tutorials were or something and now I can sort out all the things I find which is nice, especially once you join the blogging world!

Nicely organized Pin boards!

My sister in law pinned this recipe for potato soup in the crock pot and said it was awesome.
I easily found it by looking on her recipe's pin board and we tried it out today. It was awesome topped with cheese, sour cream and cooked bacon that I cut into small pieces.
Or if you would like to join Pinterest (you need an invite from someone to do so) comment with your email and I will send you one!
Happy pinning!

Thankful for Day 18

Today I am thankful for questions. When I question things and others question me, I learn. I love that.
And really, I am looking forward to the day when JR questions EVERYTHING!

11.17.2011

Thankful for Day 17

Today I am thankful for MIDNIGHT PREMIERES!

Hey do you guys think that Robert Pattinson gets mad because Kristen Stewart has so much potential to look pretty be she makes bad choices all the time when it comes to styling herself?
I didn't think she looked very good at the Breaking Dawn premiere...

Or at The Runaways premiere...

My opinion? Wear your hair down and around your face Kristen, and SMILE! MUCH prettier!

But I digress from the topic. Tonight I am just thankful to go have some FUN!

Thankful for Day 16

Once again I am thankful for my job. I am thankful for great coworkers who make work enjoyable and fun. I am grateful for the modest raise I got this year. I am thankful that they give me opportunities to learn and be paid for it, like the excel class I am taking this week. I am thankful that every Thanksgiving they give me a small turkey and bag of potatoes.
Thanksgiving is one week from today!

11.15.2011

Thankful for Day 15

Today I am thankful for modern medicine. My family would be SO SCREWED without it! Haha. But really, with a prick of a finger I can test my blood sugar  and Jared can eliminate his seizures with a few pills at night! Amazing!
Of course I will always be most grateful for skilled doctors who cared for JR when he had to have some nee-nu surgery when he was little.

So sad at the hospital after hours of patiently waiting...

11.14.2011

Thankful for Days 13 &14

So yesterday I was going to post about how I am thankful for my mind, and then I forgot to post! Haha! Typical. But really, even though I often feel like I am losing it, I am thankful for my mind. For my imagination and my creativity. For the ability to think, to store memories, and to create new solutions.

And along the same lines today I am thankful that I am always learning something new. I learn a lot of things at my job. I learn a lot of things from blogging and the internet. I learn a lot of things from reading and exploring and trying new things. Today I was able to go to my friend's house and learn a new recipe - mini pumpkin pie tarts! Talk about YUMMY! I know what I'm bringing for Thanksgiving dessert!

11.12.2011

Thankful for Day 12

Today I am thankful for warm blankeys and snuggles on cold days!

11.11.2011

Thankful for Day 11

I think it is pretty obvious what we all have to be thankful for today. I have several friends and family members who chose to serve in our military both past and presently. I would name them all but I don't want to forget anyone.
I am also thankful for those who serve us here in our local capacity. I am thankful for our policemen, firefighters and of course for correctional officers like my husband who keep the bad guys locked away. Their jobs are equally important on always overlooked.
Today, if you live in a free country, thank a veteran!

11.10.2011

Thankful for Day 10

Today I am thankful for JR's sweet singing. This kid loves to sing! Every single time he struggles to keep up with a song it warms my heart like sunshine. Sometimes the words don't quite come out right and sometimes he only hits the first and last note with a bunch of mumbles in between but I wouldn't have it any other way.
We discovered that he sings along really well to the chorus of Cheryl Crow's "If it makes you happy" song. He belts his little heart out too the long notes and does it with confidence because he know she holds them a long time and so he can sing a long time. It just kills me. Nothing else could brighten up my day more.

11.09.2011

Thankful for Day 9

Today I am thankful for GREAT FRIENDS! We have a lots of them...you know who you are! Family, co-workers, ward members, all ya'll! I was thinking about friends especially today when I was at work with some great, fun people. It makes my day so fun when I am with those guys. And then when I got home tonight I was thinking about how every Wednesday since Jared joined the gym our friends watch JR when I am still at work and he goes to a sparring class in the evening. I am pretty sure they have had to change a stinky diaper every time too! Those are TRUE friends!
Sorry, no picture of my friends today! I am simply too popular and have to many to post pictures of all you! JUST KIDDING!

11.08.2011

Thankful for Day 7 & 8

So I guess I forgot to post yesterday. I was busy snuggling up to Jared in a stolen moment of peace and quiet before bed. I am defiantly grateful for those moments. We have been really busy as of late and I feel like we don't always get quality time together so I was happy happy happy when Jared came home early from the gym so we could have that time.

And today I am thankful for modern conveniences. Yesterday when I went to make dinner the stove wouldn't turn on. I was panicked for a moment. I quickly realized however that the circuit had flipped and the problem was fixed with the flip of a switch! Whew! Thank goodness for stoves and refrigerators and microwaves. I actually had a scare with the freezer in the garage last week because unbeknownst to me JR had shut off the power strip it was plugged into. Thankfully I noticed the next day and everything was still frozen (thank you cold weather) and nothing was lost. So glad I wasn't born in the stone age!

11.06.2011

Thankful for Day 6

Today I am thankful for my soul mate, my best friend, my other half, the father of my child and my husband, Jared. I found out that a girl I used to work with lost her fiance yesterday. I feel for her so badly. It is one of those times when I don't know what to say because I can't even image how I would live on if I were in her shoes.

I love you Jared.
You are the light in my life.
You know just when to make me laugh or to leave me alone.
You are the greatest father to our son.
You always provide.
You have never stopped opening my door for me since day one.
You always make me feel special.
You make my life sweet.
I love you!

11.05.2011

Thankful for Day 5

Today I am thankful for the relationship Jared and JR have. JR wants to do everything his daddy does and say everything his daddy says. Every day when Jared comes home JR yells "DADDY" and runs to greet him for a hug and kiss. It isn't an uncommon thing in any household for a son to look up to his Dad but I am sure it warm's every mother's heart.
Tonight Jared was pretending to box and JR did it too. It was so cute!
They have the most fun together. Even when they are just sharing a snack, cuddling or taking a nap.
When I come home from work in the afternoon it isn't uncommon to see this...

Sacked out after a long day of playing light sabers I'm sure!

*Please note JR's up-side-down sippy cup and GIANT wet spot from it's leaking contents!
I guess I should mention my gratefulness for the fabric protection cleaning plan I bought with the couch! Best money ever spent!

Thankful for Day 4

So it is a little after 1 am so I am technically late! Oops! It was a busy day.
Anyway, today I am thankful for Grandparents. I am thankful that I have wonderful grandparents myself and that my parents and Jared's parents are such great grandparents to our son. Tonight my parents babysat JR so that we could go to a birthday party. It was so nice to have some alone time and they totally wore the kid out! He was asleep before we got home. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Me, my mom (Grandma) and JR on the pumpkin liner...

Grandma held JR's hand and sang train songs to him.

JR and Nana at a family birthday party...

Every time JR sees Chris now he runs for a hug. Love it.

Well I guess I will be back in a few short hours with day five!
I will be thankful for sleep if I get any tonight!

11.03.2011

Thankful For Day 3

So today I am thankful for free seasonal subway art images and I am also thankful for Costco.
I just picked up my 16x20 Fall subway art poster...

The awesome website eighteen25 puts out a free high resolution image for each holiday.
It is such a simple way to decorate and the posters can all be stored in the frame together, then you just have to switch 'em out! They even have a filler print for months without holidays and a birthday print!

The above picture is from their website. I don't know where they got their frame but the one I picked up came from the poster section at Walmart, has a nice thick frame and only cost $15.

The print it's self cost a little under $6.50 at Costco. I love Costco. I picked up some great things there the last couple of months. I got an AMAZING memory foam bathmat (feels like walking on a cloud) and a sweet lighted/magnifying mirror.

Well, that's all for today. I will leave you with a picture of something really really cute I got at Costco a month or two ago...

11.02.2011

Thankful for Day 2 and a challenge

So even though I was hatin' life today when I was at work for 13 hours and one thing after another seemed to go wrong, today I am thankful to have a job. I am not only thankful to have it but I am also thankful that I am able to earn some extra income for our family while keeping JR out of daycare and always having him home with one of us. That is certainly something very important to both Jared and me.

In other news, Jared and I started a November challenge yesterday! He wants to lose 30+ pounds by the end of November. He can totally do it too. He is eating super healthy, cutting out ALL soda and candy for the next month (except maybe minus Thanksgiving), and is hitting the gym five days a week.

I on the other hand hate the idea of a weight loss goal. I feel like it will just result in disappointment. I decided that my goal instead would be to accomplish 76 of my 10 Minute Trainer workouts in 28 days.

The schedule will look something like this...
I start tomorrow so wish me luck!

11.01.2011

Thankful for in November

So it's been a while huh? We may have experienced some technical difficulties involving JR ripping all the keys off my laptop and demolishing it to the point where the screen no longer came on.
My netbook kept me in the social networking loop well enough but it just didn't have the storage space for pictures and all that fun stuff.
And what fun is a post without pictures?

I will be playing catch up on the family blog for a while but over here I want to spend this Thanksgiving month telling ya'll what I am grateful for. So I will start out today being thankful for my new computer. It is large and lovely and I am so glad to upload all my pictures and clear out the 'ole SD card.

And because I don't have a picture of this pretty new machine, here is something better...

3 Things to Love

1. Water Marble Nail Art
So a guy at work told me to Google "water marble nails" and watch a video.
He said it would blow my mind and it did!
Look at these beauties...

You should watch a video too...

So I haven't actually tried doing this yet but I showed my sister and she did it and said it was awesome.

2. Ten Minute Trainer DVDs
These babies usually cost around $90 and come with resistance bands and meal plans and crap like that but I found the workout DVDs only used on Amazon for $4! Winning!

Tony Horton is the P90X guy and these DVDs rock because there are five workouts that are 10 minutes each and you can do as many or little as you have time or endurance for.

3. Huckleberry Shakes!
This is how you completely ruin #2.
I love huckleberry ice cream more than anything but the only stuff I could find is Tillamook Mountain Huckleberry which is really just vanilla with huckleberry swirled through it. I was disappointed in the flavor at first but then I realized it just needed to be blended up into a shake! Delicious!

And what is even better is Arctic Circle now has huckleberry shakes and I received a $1 off coupon today! Woot Woot! Now if you will excuse me I have to run on over to Arctic Circle...

7.18.2011

This time last year...

Around this time last year I was having tons of fun with my dear friend and neighbor Kristi. We did cool stuff like drove to Sun Valley, caught Garth Brooks in concert and took crappy cell phone pictures of him leaving the arena, drove through horror-movie-type-middle-of-nowhere land and scared ourselves  half to death, and we saw the Backstreet Boys in concert with 70,000 of our closest friends. Wow. That was the longest sentence EVER!
Garth after the show, July 2010

Me and Kristi at the Boise Music Festival 2010

Sadly, Kristi has some issue with not wanting to do such activities this year. Something about how she would be "extremely pregnant" or "have a newborn" this year. Whatever Kristi!

I will however be braving the festival again this Saturday with my other lovely friend and co-worker Misty as well as the Katy Perry concert in the evening. Can't wait. I will miss you though Kristi!

Four Years

The Loveland Family turned four years old yesterday!
Boy time sure does fly, but for every complaint I have about Jared I think I have a hundred warm fuzzy feelings for him.

Here are a few:
He hasn't stopped opening my door for me since we met.
He aways accommodates my Diet Coke addiction but running to the store when I have withdrawals.
He tells me I am beautiful every day..
He chases me.
He compliments my mothering skills.
He supports my decisions.
He works and strives for a better life for his family.
He never lets JR down.
He massages my back and feet WHENEVER I ask (seriously, it's true!)
He keeps my crazy in control.
He brings me to reality.
He knows me inside and out in every way possible and is my best friend in the world.
I love you Jared. Can't wait for the next four years!
Gosh, you will be really old by then, but I won't be quite 30! Just kidding Babe!

7.07.2011

Don't be jealous....

Don't be jealous of me because I have these two as my brother and husband...

7.01.2011

HELLO JULY!

Can anyone else believe that 2011 is HALF over?
And S U M M E R weather is just getting here? Crazy.
Well anyway, Jared and I are trying to be better people basically and we really really want to get back to church. Someone mentioned on a blog I came across that they were doing a challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 31 days. I thought this sounded like a really good idea and 8-ish chapters a day really isn't so much so I decided to accept! Here is the schedule if anyone wants to do it with me!

3 Things to Love

Three things I am loving this week:

1. Beauty :: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polish

This polish is $4 a bottle, comes in great bright colors, literally dries instantly and has a brush shape unlike any other polish brush I have seen. It is more flat and fits the contours of your nail perfectly!

2. Books :: The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I just started on book two, Catching Fire. I am totally hooked. They have drama, action, a little teen romance...but don't worry, it is nothing at all like those cheesy Twilight books (which don't get me wrong, I love Twilight.) And guess what? That's right, they are now doing film adaptations of these best sellers, slated for release in 2012!

3. Food :: Skotidakis Jalapeno Yogurt Dip from Costco
This is the best stuff ever! I dip bell peppers in it but it is great with chips or on a tortilla.
 2 tbsp's is 50 cal, 3.5g fat, 2g carbs, and 3gm protein.
It is so delicious! Tangy with a kick but not too spicy for all you wimps out there!

5.28.2011

25.

A quarter of a century. That's how old I turned on the 26th. Hopefully I will only live another 25 or so. I really hate the idea of getting old and slowing down.
It really was a crazy, overwhelming, hard, trying, exciting, and G R E A T year
thanks to all the people in my life. Especially my husband. He is so great. He makes my life sweet. And JR too of course!
I have a lot of goals I would like to accomplish this upcoming year and I am really looking forward to it, so here's to making the next year especially great!

5.15.2011

My 10 day cleanse: Days 6 -10

OK, I'll admit it, I lost interest in posting about my cleanse but I do want to sum things up! The second half of the cleanse was waaaaay easier just knowing it was almost over.It sucked having to drink the fiber again on the last three days but I found it was much more tolerable with a little crystal light powder mixed in. I also think if I were naturally a better cook the food would have been better and not so redundant.

Over all I lost 4.8 pounds and Jared lost somewhere between 10 and 15 but because of different scales, a possible incorrect start weight and bad math we aren't really sure. What we are sure of is that Jared lost an inch each around his waist and chest! Totally awesome.

While some of us (not me) have eaten very poorly since the cleanse, some of us have tried to maintain the diet but add little extras back in like mayo with our tuna and salt on our food. Jared claims that after these couple of days off that he is going to be good and will eat whatever I pack him.

So the consensus is that we both felt really good after the cleanse and it has helped us seen how much changing our eating habits benefits us and showed us what willpower we have. I finally bought us a scale today because I saw a rockin' deal on one at Costco. Now we will be able to monitor our weight more closely. The cleanse is recommended for every 90 days I think and I will totally do it again!

Project: Message Boards

Whipped up these little darlings for my sister-in-law as a graduation gift!
A little message board/photo display system made out of mini shutters...

Went to my local re-store looking for shutters a little bigger than the ones I ended up with, but when I saw them I thought they would be just the right size for a desk or something.
They didn't look too bad before...

So I just removed the old hinges, sanded slightly and gave them a new coat of fresh spray paint.
Added a couple of cute clips and they were done!

Originally I thought about finding some pictures of her kids and putting them in the slats but I really didn't have very many on my end and the ones she has on Facebook are from last year but so I ended up attaching the graduation card, which was a little to large to fit in the slats, and some cutie post-its.

Note to anyone who wants to do this project: The smaller the shutter, the smaller the clips you should get. The clips I found I felt pushed the slats out too wide. Also, if you can get them bigger this would make an awesome Christmas card holder. If you got a slatted closet door you could hang it sideways and stick photos in that way too. OOOOH, I like that last one. I think I just changed my mind about the art I was going to do over my couch!

Anyway, way to go JANA! WOOT WOOT! So proud of you for finishing!

5.03.2011

My 10 day cleanse: Days 3, 4 & 5

More fruit, more veggies, more fish, more brown rice and chicken. On day four I was about ready to throw in the towel (I know I am pathetic) until Jared came home and told me he had lost 8 POUNDS! that is 8lbs from Friday to Monday! Four days folks! I had renewed hope after that.

Today is day five and I am feeling pretty good. Things have been, ahem, regular, and we are over the half way hump of the cleanse. My friend Misty started the cleanse today and she is super excited, I found out that oatmeal is an acceptable food for breakfast and I have found a satisfaction for my sweet tooth in banana and peanut butter smoothies. Seriously so good. My sister-in-law told me she had made a banana, strawberry and peanut butter smoothie and I thought it sounded awesome minus the strawberries. I wanted to add some sweetness to it so I picked up some vanilla flavored almond milk at the store. It was the lowest carb flavored thing out there.

I am sure these smoothies will be my downfall. I should probably go weigh in soon to make sure I haven't gained or anything.

Yes, I will tell you at the end how much I have lost. No, I will not tell you the actual start and finish weight.

Nothing to show for it

Do you ever have one of those days where you feel like you got a lot done but have nothing to show for it? Today was one of those days for me.
Jared has about a zillion books out on shelves in the garage and they have been collecting dust there for about a year and since I have been on a spring cleaning kick I have wanted to get the dust off them and box them up.
I have been collecting the boxes our computer paper comes in at work and I actually packed up some of the books a while ago but it wasn't organized at all, plus there were some books around the house that needed to go in as well so I unpacked them and organized and repacked them. I also reinforced the boxes with duct tape since books are so heavy and I don't want the paper boxes falling apart.
I ended up with six boxes. Then I started going through all these other boxes full of random junk that was thrown in half hazardly when we moved. I tossed a bunch of junk, recycled a bunch of old papers, and set aside stuff to pass along.
Unfortunately I think the garage is a bigger mess now, plus I really want to organize my sewing and craft things now but the crazy voice inside my head is saying, "Katie! You must have boxes that are all exactly the same size!"
Yes.I am weird.
Anyways, this is what I have to show for my work today,a crappy picture of my boxed books...

Shout out to anyone in the Boise area who dumps these boxes after taking the paper out, give them to me!

My 10 day cleanse: Day 2

Jared's day two breakfast/lunch (what I sent to work with him):
  • scrambled egg whites on a whole wheat english muffin
  • 2 V8juices
  • baby carrots
  • apple
  • mandarin orange
  • strawberries
  • grapes
  • chicken breast with Montreal chicken seasoning and brown rice
My breakfast was similar to yesterday's:
  • scrambled egg whites with salsa on a plain, toasted whole wheat english muffin
  • grapes
  • oranges
  • V8 juice
  • spark energy drink
I had carrots and yellow bell pepper slices for snacks and went to the super awesome sister-in-law's house where she made me a yummy baked chicken breast with brown rice which was super yummy and waaaaay better than what I made for Jared. After I got home from her house that afternoon I realized that I don't own a covered baking dish that can go in the oven. Fail.

Anyway, dinner was similar to last night, we had the same veggie mix but this time had tilapia. It is one of the least fishy fishes I have ever had. We had snacks of apple slices and I think Jared had some celery.
Later after dinner I felt a little lightheaded and slightly sick to my stomach. Not sure what that was about. Then early this morning (day 3) I had a headache while I was getting Jared's lunch ready. I think I needed caffeine. I won't tell you how much Diet Coke I drink on a normal day but I promise you that even though Spark had more caffeine in a serving than Diet Coke, I am usually drinking a large enough amount of Diet Coke that I get way more than what Spark gives me. Don't judge me.

4.30.2011

My 10 day cleanse: Day 1

So my sister in law is super awesome and athletic and totally into healthy crap and has been trying to get Jared and I to try some Advocare products for a while. She drinks an energy drink from them called Spark and she has also done several cleanses and other products that promote health and weight loss. We never really wanted to spend the money or take the plunge and give up all our junk food and treats but finally hubby realized how much his weight was getting out of control and wanted to do a cleanse. I decided to do it with him so we could both just get on a more healthy track together.

The advocare cleanse is ten days days. It includes a fiber drink, herbal cleanse pills and probiotic restore pills. During the course of the cleanse you must eat eight to ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day, low sodium, low fat and lean foods in their most natural state.

After a $300 shopping trip to Costco on Thursday, we started the cleanse Friday morning.
Day one you drink your fiber drink and take three herbal cleanse pills. I mixed Jared his fiber up bright and early before work and had him take the pills at that time. I sent him to work with a V8, two mandarin oranges, an apple, a bag of carrots, some grapes and a can of tuna with a little salt and pepper and garlic powder. I probably should have sent more with him because that was his breakfast and lunch but oh well.

For myself for breakfast I scrambled some egg whites and topped them off with salsa. I ate a mandarin orange and some grapes. Later in the morning JR and I shared a sliced apple.

For lunch I had some tuna as well. I was going to eat it plain just like I had prepared Jared's but then I decided that since I actually like veggies I would doctor it up. I added chopped celery, yellow peppers and tomato and ended up wrapping it in lettuce like a sandwich. I ate carrots as well.

Jared said he was hungry after work and I thought he would want a snack but he ended up taking a nap. For dinner I made salmon with just a little Johnny's Seafood Seasoning and in another pan cooked up some mushrooms, carrots and green beans om a little bit of margarine with onion salt and garlic powder.
Jared said he didn't know if it was just because he was hungry or what but that meal in particular tasted awesome. I thought it was just good food in general.

I wish I had taken a before picture...

I bought four new tank tops on sale the other day but my tank top drawer was getting a bit full so I decided to clean it out. What I got was a paper box full of 30 tanks tops to send to the Youth Ranch. I think I kept about three of my old ones and that's it.
I wish I had taken a before picture of the drawer! I couldn't even close it!

I think I may have a tank top hoarding problem.
I added the box to the other clothes I have to donate.

These other boxes have been sitting in my room for at least a month now. I guess there really isn't a point to cleaning out your old stuff if you don't get rid of it...

Once again, did you notice the line through the top picture? I need another camera. Bad.
